Project Northern Doorway Peer Support Worker
Seeking an enthusiastic individual who works well in a team setting. Applicant would be working with individuals who are currently homeless and have a mental health issue or a co-occurring substance abuse issues.
Responsibilities:
– Interview and evaluate clients.
– Create and maintain client files; documenting all client encounters.
– Assist clients to identify community resources.
– Complete referrals; advocate for clients; link clients to appropriate services.
Skills & Qualifications
– Must provide a recent clear Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable persons Criminal Record Check.
– Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; post secondary education or experience in the social fields would be an asset.
– Ability to operate facsimile, photocopier and Microsoft Office and Windows.
– Valid Class 5 Manitoba driver’s license.
– Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
– Functional knowledge of crisis intervention and assessment techniques.
– Knowledge and a good understanding of mental illness.
– Understanding of confidentiality including PHIA and PHIPA.
– Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and ability to speak an Aboriginal language would be an asset.

Thompson Homeless Shelter Outreach Worker
Seeking an enthusiastic individual who works well in a team setting. Applicant would be working with individuals who are currently homeless and have a mental health issue or a co-occurring substance misuse issue.
Responsibilities:
– Maintain security of clients and building.
– Monitor and interact with clients on a regular basis.
– Communicate with the coordinator and a variety of community resources.
– Perform client intake and administration.
– Enter client information into HIFIS (Homeless Individuals and Families Information System).
– Ensure that information is documented in client files including any incident reports.
Skills & Qualifications
– Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; post secondary education or experience in the social fields would be an asset.
– Must provide a vulnerable persons criminal record check.
– Ability to operate facsimile, photocopier and Microsoft Office and Windows.
– Valid Class 5 Manitoba driver’s license.
– Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
– Functional knowledge of crisis intervention and assessment techniques.
– Knowledge and a good understanding of mental illness.
